I know. My parents argue that he should have expected it to be 'difficult,' but I also think it is the responsibility of the chief to take care of their trainees, not to act like drill instructors. I wouldn't have such a big issue with it if they were warned beforehand of 'surprise' PT drills so he would have had better guidelines to take care of himself properly, but nobody ever told him anything.
He seems really bent on continuing the program, but I think it's a red flag for how they might treat him in the future. If anything ever happens to him, because it's a really risky job, I'm worried that it won't be handled properly
I know firefighters around the world all have military history in their origin, but I don't think I've ever heard of them doing random military drills. I feel ya, I would not want to put my life in their hands if this is how they do things on the regular. Wishing your brother the best!
