For the larger maps (and maybe for the smaller ones), I think it helps to print out a map instead of selecting it in a menu. That way you can keep track of your movements in real time. Woodlands map is loosely based on the final battle in Act 1 of Mil-Sim Story

Maybe it's too soon, but I'm torn between adding more base management stuff, more maps, more weapons and gadgets (some are missing that were featured in my story), and a Tournament Mode.

The Tournament mode would generate a randomly generated Mil-Sim Tournament for the player or perhaps have the option to play the one based on the original plot, like picking a favorite team from the story or deploying your own to rewrite the events in the story (like what if Vampire Squad/JarPig Squad won) and so on. Would be interesting but that's far off the agenda for now.

So far, the game is 552,0 KB. At the moment, it's small enough to put on a diskette drive. I have a feeling it'll get larger in size over time. This is the first game I've made since Uni when I made a tick-tack-toe game in C years ago so don't expect super optimization. I'm not a qualified programmer by any means.

Alpha build of Mil-Sim Story: The Terminal Game is now available to download. Keep in mind it's a work in progress.

If you're going to program your game, don't put it into one file or it's going to be a nightmare to work on. Break up everything into modules and then create a run.sh script if you're on linux to run everything. I designed my game such that anyone can edit modules like armory.py and easily add their own custom weapons, equipment, clothes, etc.

At the moment, you can create your own squad, set up their stats, buy their weapons and all that, and then deploy them in a basic 4v4 elimination match against some pretty aggressive bots. They'll actively hunt your squad mates down and run away if their health drops too low. Even though there's one map so far (A two story 3x3 Killhouse with a central plaza, hallways, and multiple rooms with cover to hide cont...

...behind) the enemy AI is randomized in terms of what classes they are, what weapons they have, etc. Even their names are randomized. Oh and you can save your squad's progress too. Everything from Credits earned from matches, to their health, weapon conditions and relationships (yes there is a social aspect to this text based Military sim) is saved into your squad file.

I want to eventually add new maps, new game modes, maybe the ability to import someone else's squad you can put your own squad against in combat, implement enemy squads directly from MIl-Sim Story (and maybe the battlefield featured in it too), I feel like it's getting bloated already from the two days I've been working on this.
Moving onto Alpha 3 Build. Secondary Missions now offer a quick alternative to getting credits without going into combat (but have some skill checks). Conquest is off the table for now but the two elimination maps now have a live map display on the top that tells you where you are at. New Weapons and Drama Events.
