I'm finally finished with Litany of the Long Sun. Now I'll start uh... Epiphany of the Long Sun. It's even longer. I was happy to see that Michael Andre-Driussi wrote a companion for it, like he did for New Sun and Wizard Knight, but it includes Short Sun too, so I can't open it yet.

The companions aren't really necessary, and sometimes he's just REACHING, but they're a lot of fun to read.

I've yet to read the Illiad. Now, between democracy and monarchy, eh, maybe we'll get a future Thomas Paine with a new rendition of "Common Sense," especially with Clancy's case. It's one thing to have a King across the sea overrule your local representatives. It's another to let a population that can't be drafted into war, women, vote on matters of war and justice.

Then actually, to add to that, we can even add that it's not common sense for suffrage to be universal even among men. You need people who actually have a stake in the country, and an interest in developing it for their descendants, to be the only influence in how the country is run. Having that be white, male, property owners in the US after the Revolution was a good start.

And, while optimistic, Andrew Jackson the chad expanded voting to all white, male, citizens of the US. It's probably a feature of my race that I prefer less voting than more, but I've seen the polls, the maps. If only white men could vote, then America might be restored.

I still gotta read The Knight. Loved New Sun/Long Sun/Short Sun. I'm currently reading the Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio. REALLY good sci-fantasy space opera. It's got some nods to Wolfe, 40k, Dune, Tolkien, but all done in a way that keeps me surprised and hooked. Plays out in my head like a dark Studio Madhouse anime.
