Took a risk and repasted my PS3 slim. It was thankfully the revised model with allegedly better cooling, easier to work on, but it was absolutely dusty inside. Good lord. How did this thing not catch on fire earlier?
Put it all back together and stress tested the console using Uncharted 2 because that's a graphically challenging game for the system. Played for an hour and only noticed a strange smell (Not sure if it's something burning or maybe it's the new thermal paste or perhaps I'm very close to burning my house down).
Played a couple of minutes later and didn't have any abrupt shutdowns, cmos battery seems fine, and I guess the fan is working because I can hear it and warm air is coming out from the vents. I guess I succeed? It was a pain in the ass with all the different non-standardized screws.
Something I noticed about Uncharted 2 as I started from the beginning is that yellow paint meme. I had no idea it was abundant in this generation too. When you're aware of it, it's blatantly obtrusive.
