I'm going to do page of links to interesting Coursera courses that folks might find useful. They are university level, and run by good unis and are free to do online. (Some of them are the same material that you would get if you physically attended the classes themselves.) They are useful if you need help with preparing for your university course, or want to fill in gaps in knowledge that you've missed, or just for

My newest character in LOTRO should reach level 15 today. Excellent. Means that I should be able to open some of the lootboxes with free black keys that you get for the anniversary event. That means that I /may/ be able to get one of the figments of splendour items I've been wanting for ages.

I've been wanting to read the Temeraire books. I've read most of them before, but it was only last year when I got the last two in the series because I couldn't find them easily. There seemed to be a problem publishing the 2nd to the last one in the UK. (Happens quite a bit with fantasy and sci-fi books, sadly, especially sci-fi.) Now, I've found them all, so I'll do a re-read after I've finished the Dresden Files.

Needed to do that as it's been a long time since I read them so I could fully enjoy the last two. Peter Jackson was supposed to have made the first into a film, but the project was cancelled, sadly. Would have loved to have seen it.

What I'll never get is why, just because you have a warm day, people think that it's time to make a lot of racket! It's either kids screaming, morons playing loud music/getting into arguments/(almost!) crashing cars/motor bikes by driving too fast, or electrical gardening equipment. You can't have a day where you can sit out and read a book, or listen to birdsong, or something that doesn't annoy people.

TPTB dreams of a future where money grows from trees and leaf blowers grow from the concrete, wailing away to keep the general population indoors and headphoned 24/7

I think it's because it attracts all of the loathsome extrovert types, who have hypo-sensory issues and need to have a constant excess of stimuli in order to feel good. As an autistic person, I wish I could shove all of these people into a cramped pod and fire them into the Sun, where they can have all of the excitement they could ever dream of.

It's getting to that time of year when it's too hot for me. Over did it on Saturday and have been feeling tired ever since, though yesterday was worse than today.

The irony of it is when secondary schools in Britain forced girls to bake bread in school is that they would've had a lot of stick from their teachers if they produced crap bread. Now, it seems acceptable.
Decent bread seems to be a difficult thing to come by these days. It's either full of holes, disintegrates or unfilling. The worst is brown bread that has seeds in it - they put the seeds in to make buyers think it's decent bread but when you get it it's like eating grit, as well as the other problems. White bread is usually dry or full of holes and breaks apart. A good bread is dense and has a weight to it.

Cakes are the same, though with the sugar in them, folks usually tolerate crap cakes more than crap bread.

I think it goes without saying that 90% of the time I hate people. That's because 90% of the time they irritate me. Today, some prat decided to harass my dog in our garden. Fuck off...
