I'll be frank: Progress on the current chapter of the Valkyrie Program is very slow because I simply don't want to write it... but it has to be written. Introducing characters in a "Hello, how are you? My name is ____" context is in my opinion the worst way to introduce characters, but when a story like this begins with an orientation it becomes a necessary evil.
The good news to readers who don't like this method is that it's the only time I will allow this to happen. It being the start of the story, I don't mind subjecting readers to a small amount of bullshit if it means that later on things will pick up. I hope to revise this chapter to be more engaging in the future, but for now all I have to say is that my priority is getting it done, not getting it done well.
