i've decided i will not be updating my site from here on out. recently discovered someone has been archiving my website, statuscafe, and even my profile and it makes me feel a bit... odd?
i know whoever did it probably didn't have nefarious intent, it could've even been a bot, but i feel watched and monitored in a way i didn't before. walking away from a site that I've poured so much of myself into over something so silly feels dramatic and i know it is but i also know this is something that will constantly be lingering in my mind and ruining whatever fun i have working on my site.
i understand this is the nature of the internet, this is something that happens, and that my acknowledgment of this will likely lead to more archiving of my site. it's something i'll make my peace with eventually but for now i think it's best to wash my hands of it all and i'm comfortable enough leaving my site where it is. i just wanted to say thank you to everyone who left me a kind word, it means a lot to me.
@limovars yeah it's sooo weird and the sheer amount that was archived also kinda gave me the creeps. like if it had just been my homepage it woulve been fine but they even had my test pages archived lol
i don't know you, i just saw this on global, but i hope you don't leave for good :) it most certainly was a bot indexing your pages to the archive, crawlers are set in place to do that for any site they can find. you should only upload things that you feel okay with others seeing for days to come, so i hope you will reconsider and just keep your site "comfortable" for you :)
in my case it didnt feel like a bot was doing it, but totally intentional like someone was watching me, which i would be okay with if i knew who it was?? the persistent feeling that some super online person was unhealthily enaging with my content this way really got to me. omg. i try not to interact with people's posts too soon these days for the same reason
there is a way to email archive to take it down but its a whole process. either way, this is totally understandable, but your content will be missed bee!! and if you ever reconsider, just know we're cool with whatever you choose!
@limovars, yeah i just checked mine and only 4 of the 21 saves of my homepage were bots, the rest were manual user saves lol... so i definitely know what you mean about the persistant feeling. it's unsettling and something i know will just keep bothering me. so for my own sake i have to walk away. i do wish i knew who and why they were doing it, because like you say, maybe it would ease my mind a little
@polydactica, personal reasons i'd rather not get into. but my friend debtdeath put it best: "im also firm believer in the right to be forgotten and how excessive collecting of data is just playing into the machinations of surveillance." also i fail to see what benefit archiving my site will have. i don't really see the point as there's nothing to be gained from it. educational or otherwise lol.

Why would you be against this? I see any website being archived as a net win (pun accidental)
