Among the first werewolf novels I read were the trilogy by Alice Borchardt. Unlike all the other werewolf books, they were more of an historical fantasy/horror (a little bit like Juliet Marillier's Celtic/druidry inspired novels, without the 'horror' aspect. When they were published, there wasn't even an urban fantasy genre as they were put in the general fiction categories. She also started writing an Arthurian
trilogy but only finished two of the books before she passed away. I don't know if I should list her werewolf books or not as they don't quite fit the urban fantasy definition.
