Social media feels like middle school where you gotta keep up appearences tbh.

I think part of why it feels so good compared to what social media has become is that indie web gives you back agency over your own curation. No evil algorithm driving engagement to sell adds, just cool folks you found making cool stuff.

and no one makes fun of you for tiny things, that's my least favorite thing about social media

It is also VERY reassuring knowing you can spend a lot of time on something and it will always be visible instead of being buried to the bottom of a feed. (These posts dont count, I'm talking about site creations)
