I do want to mention that the Internet Archive was hacked precisely in the middle of my research (alongside a friend) into Lux Madriana's activities in the late 1970s. Suffice to say, it was unfortunate timing and quite a shock to our systems, a reminder of the realities of a digital lifestyle, I suppose.

I want to clarify that I'm still not clear on who hacked it or why, so I cannot comment on that, except to say that I want it back ASAP.

Despite the results of the poll on the front page (which was unequivocally in favor of frills), I'll be, within the next month or so, switching this site to a more sedate layout. The pink sucralescence (as we called it back in the day) of this site causes too much dissonance for me given what has come to light over the past year.

Despite the archive situation, I've updated a bit with some disturbing news clippings concerning the court case from the early 1990s involving St. Bride's School. Mind the content warnings. If you are unaware, the Internet Archive, including the Wayback Machine, has been hacked and is not operational. Given the scale of their archival work, they surely have backups. I am told it will be a matter of weeks before things are online again. Until then, browsing my site, which links to a lot of archived material, may be a challenge. Apologies!

It's that bad. When I was part of Aristasia, I was told that Romantia had been a mixed gender salon of sorts. It seems they were, instead, a home publishing house for some really disgusting material.
I am also finding little evidence of Romantia existing, actually, as more than the zines and other articles where a couple specific people occasionally pose in "Romantian" garb. It seems that it was their attempt to create the appearance of an extant "sub"culture by writing as if it existed.
Yeah I've seen more than my fair shair of dogwhistlely bs but those zines just might be some of the worse.
