> (https://thricegreat.neocities.org/the_art_of_static_linking.txt) "ln -s" can get messy, and "cp" can take lots of disk space. On Plan 9, they've got bind, which is the perfect solution. A simple database is the least bad solution on Linux, for speed, disk space, and lack of confusion.
