I just read your last blog post and it is disheartening to read about the situation you are facing. I feel part of your isolation, even though I don’t think our situations are comparable, and I truly resonate with the two last paragraphs of the post. Please, do not lose yourself in the multitudes that surround you, hold tight to your beliefs.

I admire people that face situations like yours and end up rising instead of drowning. I sincerely hope that things will work out for you. Sometimes it can be underestimated how much influence a place can have over us. Even if it sounds corny, I believe that we are born somewhere that we don’t choose, but we get to choose the place where we bloom, even if it’s difficult to do so.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It means a lot to feel seen like that and it makes me happy to learn it resonated with you. I agree with what you said, and I'll definitely do my best to overcome this situation. Thanks for the follow, I'm looking forward to see how your page develops :)

Whilst I'm sure there are many ways in which our experiences diverge, what you wrote here reminds me somewhat of my experiences growing up caught between Protestantism and Catholicism in Northern Ireland. We still experience a lot of sectarianism here, and hiding your real identity is a big part of life for the few converts that do exist. There's a real risk of genuine violence and family disownment here as well.

That is to say: even though it often feels exceptionally isolating, I think it's virtuous to remain firm in what you believe (even if you ought to retain an open mind) - environments like that make it very difficult, and often you do have to leave close-minded people behind (even family) in my experience. But I think it's worth it, and things have felt better for me since I've done so - I hope they can for you too.

I had no idea developed nations faced it too... It's upsetting that we live in a world where that kind of barbarism persists today. I totally agree with what you said, there's something beautiful about sticking to what you think is right despite the implications, and it is worth it even if it means abandoning everyone. I'll just need a few more years before I can make a move :)
