SO close to 10,000 views! Hopefully I'll have something new done by the time I hit the milestone. I'm working on several pages at once but it's going rather slow...

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Alternatives to Big Technology Platforms and Programs article is finally up! https://koshka.neocities.org/scroogle2-scroogleharder.html It's showing as part of yesterday's update due to Neocities' goofiness.

thanks for this! personally i'm not too worried about discord as a casual user who's disabled the data usage options, but it won't be getting my number if i'm ever locked out of my account. i appreciate the group i've found and the valuable resources it's provided, but i'll manage and friends will know where to find me.

i also recently bought a new pc and will be doing a fresh reinstall of windows. i'd give linux a shot if it weren't for compatibility issues, so for now i'll just have to maximize my privacy as best as i can with a microsoft product, using the link you provided about windows 10. fun stuff.

Thank you for your feedback! Linux can actually run a lot of Windows programs using WINE, and Proton is even capable of running a myriad of Windows games. https://www.protondb.com/

ah unfortunately i have a certain drawing tablet that doesn't work with linux, not even with digimend :( that's the biggest issue for me. hopefully it will be supported in the future.

Very impressive write-up on the whole, though I'd like to note two things: 1. Telegram requires a phone number to sign up; based on the comments around Parler, I think we both agree this is unpleasant.

2. Re: Mastodon, I think you missed some subtleties; the point of it isn't to be one big platform, but rather to be one big *protocol*, much like IRC, except different servers can talk to each other. It's meant to ensure that no one group has undue power -- the only thing people can really do when faced with stuff they disagree with is block them and move on, instead of being able to fully deplatform them.

I looked at mastodon as an alternative to roleplaying on twitter. It was promising, apart from one thing - I found it difficult to find people with similar interests. There's loads of instances but finding one which was appropriate to join wasn't easy. You can set one up yourself, but you need to know how to run the software, or pay for someone else to host it/look after the technical stuff for you.

The last wasn't good a good option because there was a limit on the number of accounts that could be on it - not a good thing when people might want to play more than one character so it was quite limited to what I wanted.

Thank you for your gracious words and feedback, @shadowm00n!! I will put up an updated/corrected version of the article incorporating your corrections, and a good alternative video site a person on Gab linked me to, today or tomorrow.

Very useful information. I was quite delighted that you included Cock.li in the e-mail section, and I would also add that not all of its domain names (e.g., airmail.cc and firemail.cc) are offensive. As for YouTube alternatives, I would recommend VidLii and BitView: both imitate old, 2000s YouTube, and I also maintain an account on the former. Also, for Web browsers, I see that Internet Explorer has been omitted...

I also quite like Yandex search. In my experience, its chief advantage when compared to Google, Bing, and Yahoo is its complete lack of bias/censorship (e.g. try searching "8chan" in Yandex vs. the other three); unfortunately, it often delivers Russian-language results when I search in English. Apparently, its reverse image-searching capabilities for anime are excellent: https://files.catbox.moe/3gxqxw.png

Thank you for your feedback, my friend!! I will put up an update with corrections and updates based on what you said. I don't really have an opinion on Internet Explorer but it seems to also be spyware from what I have heard.

Added my new Affiliates to The Portal and The Dock, and a link to the Times Square Neocities Neighbourhood. That is all. Toppo has been added to Xenoverse 2, and he has Hakai'd my hopes of being at all productive.

thanks for adding me to the dock! one slight correction: i'm not a positivist, just a transhumanist who writes transhumanist-positive fiction, meaning i don't portray the movement in a bad light :) i will be sure to add your site to my links!

Thank you for the follow! Regarding your latest diary entry, I have heard that autism and ADHD can be comorbid, and can also be mistaken for each other. Just some "food for thought". I really like the photograph and the overall look of your website's front page by the way! I'm a fan of Depeche Mode too, mainly the Violator album.

Thanks for the follow too! It's nice to meet a fellow Depeche Mode fan! "Violator" has some great tunes on it for sure. ^_^

Take it from someone with firsthand experience: one problem complicating diagnoses of that common comorbidity is both commonality and mutual exacerbation of their symptoms. Violator's probably the best synthpop album since Trans-Europe Express.

Thank you for the follow! I love your Technology Shrine! I don't think I've ever seen the machines you posted there before. Always interesting to see what was there before my time.

Thank you too! It's nice to hear you like the shrine. I like how the sections of your website are in different regions.

Apologies to anyone waiting for me to put up that Alternatives to Big Technology article! I wanted to put something up to commemorate hitting 7,777 viewers and this is all I had ready...

I was very curious to see how badly my website would render in Windows 98. Turns out I cannot even connect to it in IE or K-Meleon because they don't support whatever modern SSL Neocities uses. Disheartening but probably not surprising. On the bright side, Wiby works perfectly!
