WOWWW fascinating write up!! it sounds like essentially WB created a proto-fandom wiki?? and i love that you called it "gentrification" bc YES i have big feelings on how companies have moved into fandom spaces these days and raised expectations to un-DIY-able standards!!!
Thanks so much! Yes WB was one of the first companies that tried to create a top down fandom community. I definitely see the resemblance with sites like wikia. The promise of one central place where all fans contribute sounds nice, but the experience of visiting peoples self made fandom websites is so much more rewarding.
