As someone who got big into PTCG again before product at MSRP was impossible (which I'd say was mid-surging sparks), I agree with most of this. Notably, not every set with a big nostalgia-bait character headlining was profitable (Obsidian Flames was infamous for being "mid" from a hit standpoint, despite the headlining Charizard).
