Regarding your question on whether to keep your update posts: you could split your blog into two sections: one for full length posts, and one for small posts (ie microblog posts), which is where you could keep an archive. Or not; I used to keep a site update log archive, but got rid of it because it wasn't really that useful to have.
Not a bad idea. I think part of my issue is that most of my update posts are expendable but sometimes I'll make a longer, musing one that could almost be a blog post. It's making me wonder if some of that energy ought to be redirected to the blog proper. Dunno.
