I completely agree with the "finish a game before reviewing" sentiment. I would love to review the new tomodachi life game, but I simply just haven't been playing enough for me to reach the ending yet. Being extra critical is also something I find annoying, but on the bright side, reviewing games has forced me out my comfort zone and let me find the game series I love that I would've never found without my reviews!
Referencing the Yap Trap, I really agree with the sentiment that companies aren't experimenting anymore. The reason I incline to retro games to much is that they're so... unique! Some of my favourite game series like Rhythm Heaven and Katamari are my favourites because you can't find their gameplay-style almost anywhere else. Obviously I still love some modern games -- Mario Odyssey will always be my favourite...
...game of all time. But, I do wish game companies still TRIED to be innovative. And, no, improving console performance isn't innovation. Updated graphics were impressive 20 years ago, but now it's just a lazy marketing gimmick.
