i feel like certain types of people in fandom resent the very existence of POC because we’re an interruption to their lily-white fantasy world in which racism (and by extension how they might benefit from it as it pertains to art and media) isn’t something they have to think about.

they view representation as a problem that needs solving and they are so excessively insecure about not *appearing* racist that they’d really prefer it if we simply didn’t exist, so they might not have to “deal with” us.
to people like this the disclosure of non-whiteness represents an unwanted intrusion of the Real World into their land of make-believe.
