Are you sure you want to do this?
Firstly - what kind of tutorials? Secondly - I've found converting videos to MP4 format shrinks them down in size and can be hosted on Neocities. But you're not wrong, Neocities doesn't natively support videos. As a Supporter, however, you get increased storage and can nest them in your pages, I've done a few and intend to do another tonight. Just a thought.
I’m not for certain, because I don’t make videos myself, but YouTube has an option to make content available only to those who have the link. That would eliminate it being available to outsiders. Not sure if they are able to be embedded or not, though.
paintkiller, wdym you can nest in your pages? :0 i have not figured out how to support video in a way that makes sense
@warp-zone - I'm not sure how to post it as a comment, but if you inspect page source here at about line 220 you can see an example of code I used to embed a video. I've only gotten it to work with MP4 file formats tho. view-source:https://paintkiller.neocities.org/new/053122.html
Appreciate the feedback! @paintkiller - Vencake recently reached out and asked if I thought about doing a few tutorials on some of my art. I use OBS for recording, which is saved in mp4, however the longer the video, the bigger the size. There is also an issue with OBS that doesnt record keystrokes, which makes them useless, as i do NOT intend to narrate, i loathe talking on video.
@ futureperfect, I was reading up on YouTube, and they do allow videos to be set private, that video only allows 50 shares, and only link through email. Unless I completely read it wrong.
Cool! I'm here for it when you get around to making them, video or otherwise!
@paintkiller OOOH, I SEE! Thank you!
I believe you can set a video to unlisted. It essentially makes it private, but able to be viewed on their site like normal. It won’t show up in search results or anything.
@futureperfect I'll have to look more into YouTube then, if I can unlist and just share the video that would solve my issue, thank you!
Ohh looking forward to it! Regarding YT vids, if you still want to embed them I do it on my (unlinked on my site 'cause redoing it but up) projects page (https://vencake.neocities.org/projects.htm). It uses iframes, but if that doesn't bother you just copy pasta the code.
@vencake never thought of using an iframe, ill have to do some testing on my local server to see I like the iframe route, I haven't even decided what the tutorials page will even look like, I may end up just linking the videos with a thumbnail to save loading times. But in any case, this is a sizable project for me, and i'm excited to see how it turns out!
