I bought a new big-box PC game for the first time in years today, managed to get one at a semi-reasonable price. Excited for it to be delivered.

Great essay! I started my site to encourage (force?) myself to focus on the games I want to play in I suppose a bucket list manner. For me it is a combination of thise things as you say. A desire to learn and piece together gaming history for my own curiosity, and to "close the loop" in my mind of the nagging "I really must play/complete that one day" in a bid for inner hobby peace
