I love this! so many different quotes and perspectives. I've always had a hard time with the idea that the reason people write is to be read by others. I think that's too much of a blanket statement. The only person I'm writing for is me and my future self, but sharing it so that I articulate myself better
and if anyone identifies with what I have to say I'm ecstatic but the reason I do it is to process and understand things, which I have a hard time doing without writing. but it's very cool to see different perspectives and I hope you find your way!
I write a lot of fanfiction, and part of the experience is a lot of writing into the void, with no indication it'll be appreciated or even be read by others. The important thing new fanfiction writers learn is to write for yourself, and if other people like it, it's a nice bonus!
i loved reading both of your takes, @maxcrunch and @infinite-dreams! it's super validating to see others treating writing like a personal process. and i totally agree, if others resonate, that's a bonus, not the goal. thanks for sharing your thoughts <3
