On MS Agent: It's actually completely custom TypeScript built directly into the app! It manages state, sound, balloon styling, and event triggers natively rather than using VBS or MASH. I did use MASH a lot as a reference when designing the behavior, though! Adding direct MASH script/file compatibility is on my backlog, but integrating it into the current service is quite a bit of work for a niche feature.

Although I did download a lot of stuff off archive.org, maybe you have some stuff I dont have?

I have the full tool suite for making your own custom agents from scratch, including a compiler and decompiler. My email is lainerunner at gmail, just shoot me a ping if you want me to send everything. If not, all good. I personally think tying your msagents into even more stuff would be cool! Agentic ai is taking off and these guys were the first hermes agent. They bring back good digimon vibes.

Good to know! As for tying into Agentic workflow, it's possible someone could fork off this work in the future, but to keep in check with the design system and overall ethos of Windows 99, I'm trying to avoid being anachronistic when it comes to using out of universe elements like modern LLM artificial intelligence.

Either way, let's keep in touch :)

msAgent doesn't use LLMs for agentic AI though though, and you're literally already running it ;) AI is new? Must not know about the Ultra HAL AI from 1998 that works with Clippy lmao. Only Transformers is new. You never used an ELIZA model on dos? We've had Artificial Intelligence since 1867, with the automated mechanical Turk. You already added more novel features than msAgent had out of the box.

I think we may be misunderstanding each other here: I simply am trying to say I don't want to pipe the infrastructure into modern LLMs, which is what I thought you were suggesting. I am familiar with Eliza and Ultra HAL, but those are not LLMs, they are rule-based systems.

For reference, the current W99 MSAgent implementation is just event-driven scripting with static phrase arrays (ex. when you open Notepad, it picks a random line from a hardcoded list and says it). It's closer to the original Clippit/clippy than anything you'd call AI (event hooks and static response, no inference at all).

And I don't know why you're bringing up the Mechanical Turk, it was literally a man hiding in a box intending to trick an audience. Also that was in the 1700s, not 1867. I'm not sure where you got that date from.
