re: cws -> subject: Interesting topic! I think "subject" is a reasonable compromise and would naturally have broader adoption, but in the case of cw on masto specifically I've come to think of it as a matter of platform etiquette or a social convention (like certain tagging practices on Tumblr or not @ing people on Twitter).
I've also seen way too many people use CWs for stuff _no one_ would find objectionable, like cat pictures. It all threatens to make CWs completely useless. I suppose a requirement to specify _why_ you consider it NSFW could help.
