reminder for the americans that labour day is called may day or international workers' day in the rest of the world and generally takes place on may 1. this holiday was deliberately altered in the us (the historical claim is time of ratification, but people had been autonomously celebrating it on may 1 prior to then) as it celebrates when socialists fought for the 8-hour work day under the mantra:

While it can be acknowledged in the modern day that 8 hours is still way too long, in the historical context (as explained by Karl Marx in Capital, Volume 1, Chapter 10) they'd been working 12 h/d, 6 d/w, plus 10h on sunday, and the 10 Hours Resolution had failed due to the bourgeoisie finding loopholes in the law despite multiple revisions
