i feel at times that my work is too derivative. rather than trying to seek out what is "good" at all times, i ought to focus on what comes instinctively. the best craftsmen have a unique style. i should feel free to explore my own ideas, as should everyone else

even if it ends up sucking at least it's genuine. i can always tell when artists leave a piece of themselves in their works and often it is preferable
I used to worry about this too but then realized every piece of media ever is derivative & inspired by another piece of media which was derivative & inspired by something else.
