I randomly found this and I'm sure glad that I did. It was news to me that they're trying to integrate AI for a platform that is for creatives and web revival, given that it was evident of the harms not only with copyrighted works but also with the environment. I hope more people will see this and sign it--we can't let this be more likely to be applied.

When signing the petition, please use a valid neocities username otherwise I have to remove your signature! I would have made the petition just require a email address but the neocities username field is there for verification purposes because this is supposed to be a petition signed by people with a neocities account.

A petition on Google Forms? How would this even work? AI isn't even implemented officially in Neocities, and there's no evidence it will ever be.

...yeah... I kinda agree with this I'm sorry y'all, if AI gets implemented and scrapes stuff I'll leave but it doesn't seem to be happening now or planned. hope not at least

If you read what is stated on the home page, you'll find the reasons why this petition started and why there are people signing it. Just stating that something isn't the case and will never be seems to be glossing over if not outright ignoring that.

As for how the petition works: signatures end January 18th 2025, signatures get sent to Kyle Drake on January 19th or 20th.

If the petition does well and Kyle decides to ignore it and add AI back anyways, there will likely be even more of a migration from this site to alternatives and self hosted webservers. You are correct that Kyle gets that final say on the matter however it's not really a wise idea to ignore something like this if you don't want to upset your community.

my question in all of this is who even uses the built-in neocities editor enough to be upset about this? i didn't even know kyle had introduced one because i haven't opened up the built-in editor since... 2018 maybe?

Yes, it was for my personal site, a shrine/fansite, and my group's website. I am currently testing the waters on nekoweb with my personal site but in the mean time I have to keep paying for supporter for the other two sites. It's also very useful to have this site so I can spread the word on the platform directly instead of doing so off platform.
