what'd you think of monkey wrench?

mixed feelings! obviously many parts of it have not aged well but of course i loved hearing about the destruction of billboards and construction equipment. the copy i read had an interesting forward that talked about some instances of direct action inspired by the book. it reminded me of some other books from around this time in terms of its sort of combination of cynicism and idealism and absurdity

and in terms of the characters being this specific sort of often unlikeable anti-hero type, in a way i don't think characters are as often now. i feel like the cynicism v. idealism + a specific sense of humor comes out a lot in how the characters are written.
