I have yet to make a page detailing what to do to get into radio, but for now: if you want to set up your own station, keep it low key. If transmitting over the air, do so at a low power output. If streaming online without paying licensing for music, only share it between friend groups and people you trust. TL;DR: Don't be stupid.
As for software recommendations, I'd recommend: Mixxx for playout, Stereo Tool (Windows) or PulseEffects/EasyEffects (Linux) for processing, Butt for streaming to a server, and Icecast for a streaming server. If looking for a transmitter, go with one that's compliant with your region's laws on unlicensed broadcasting. In the US, that would be the FCC Part 15. You'll have more leeway in rural areas.
