I have quite a bit of genuine affection for the Hydlide series. They're all innovative games in their way that did things that other JRPGs of the era weren't doing, with some of their DNA being present in games I absolutely adore like Ys. I've only beaten Hydlide 1 so far (MSX version) but intend to do the rest eventually as well.
I fully get that compelling feeling you felt with Super Hydlide that sometimes occurs when you play something so unconventional that even if you don't LOVE it, you want to do your best to meet it where it's at and understand its intricacies solely because it's not like anything else which makes it inherently fascinating. Good review!
glad you enjoyed it! i didn't even mean to push these updates publically since i was just updating some thumbnails but i guess some good came of it lmao
