I wonder how much people hold back their local identity in their art because they’ve unconsciously learned to imitate USA. So many people must have interesting perspectives that they tone down because they think it’s the least interesting part of them. K-pop has shown that you can keep your own culture in an international product, but I don’t see many others trying to be that ambitious (yet)!
I'm kinda the opposite of this. I'm american but unconsciously learned to imitate Japanese culture because I grew up in weeb and otaku spaces. It really sucks when you struggle to put yourself into your work like that :(
