I have to constantly remind myself to write characters that are actually female. Even if you write fictional characters, it all comes from your head, so the characters are kind of you. I naturally just create characters that are me with a twist. All guys. To write compelling girl characters I have to make a conscious effort and go FAR outside of myself.

My best advice for this is very easily to look at more media that has types of female characters you personally vibe with. It's hard to get started on writing new things, but seeing others do it can help give you a better idea.
