In general, .net domains are cheaper while still being easy to remember :)
Also, thegportal.net sounds better than thegportal.com in my opinion :)
Because both thegportal.net & thegportal.com cost the same to keep up, I'm 99% sure I just chose it because it sounded better & more unique :)
