hey. as someone else in cs, couple of things to maybe reassure you a bit. one, if they didn't want us here they should've made things more idiot-proof. two, you can minor in stuff. three, my forensics teacher also is going for her phd in greek classic myths. so you still have time.
you don't have to do everything right now. you can go back to uni later on your work's dime. you can use your degree to go into archival and help historians find each other's works. you can do so much, we're barely into the world, there's more time than you know. I have also done website updates while in class, and am so procrastinating my own group projects rn. it's all right. everyone does it.
you have exactly as much right to be in your major as everyone else there, which is to say all and none of the right in the world. it isn't your fault they can't see through your ruse, nor is it my fault they haven't figured out i'm an idiot too. we're like malware that way, finding all the cracks. and like whitehat hackers, we'll show 'em how to do security better once we've used the cracks to get into their pockets
so, take a breath. try to worry a little less. you've got time and you got this far so you may as well ride it to the end of the road just to see what happens. you're gonna be all right. <3
this is genuinely so kind of u to share thank you :((( i feel so comforted by everything you've said and even just the first point you made, that they let us into our degree programs in the first place... out of everyone i've spoken to about my worries you've really settled them the most <33 thank you
i was thinking about going back to school in the future as an option and it's really relieving to hear u echo that, and the prospect of going into history or anthropology even with this degree is totally novel to me so i'm going to look into it further !! and if you know anything more about getting into those fields as a cs major or even just people who have done the same i would really like to hear abt it...
but again thank u for sharing n being so compassionate :)) and i wish you luck with your own career journey too
cs and it can be taken /anywhere/. even museums: you think they do their inventory by hand? hell no. someone'll have to come in and upgrade those ancient systems. help them scan their documents and connect them with other museums. you can take your degree ANYWHERE. if you want to use it for history, you can, 100%. do it right and your employer might pay for your anthro degree. bigger idiots than us have done it!
and if they can, so can you, and so can i. we're in this together, you and me and every other computer nerd who's sneaking into an industry through the back door. they can't stop us, they need us to live. so it's all right, promise. you're gonna be okay. <3
when it comes to how to get into the industry though. just go find some anthropologists or museum people and just go "Hey what's your IT dept like" and they can point you in the right direction. all about just talkin' to people and figuring out how to help them best, and once you find your niche you're solid. :D
:D definitely going to start looking into it from now!! thank you you've made me excited about my career again :))
OMG hope i havent been spamming u with comments!! i forgot if i'd already left one when u said you'd fixed it lol <33 u are so sweet thank you :D
keep an eye out for new collection pages :) where i will put cool things i find on the interwebs
new journal entry <3 planning to start work on the collections again soon! if u have suggestions for collections i would love to hear them :)
glad to see you're doing better!! <3
