Archimedes contributed to the application of mathematics. Indeed, in his work *Equilibrium*, he addressed the problem of the lever, which, along with the wedge, the inclined plane, the roller, and the pulley, made up the collection of simple machines used in ancient times for constructions as amazing as the pyramids of Egypt.
