I just put up the same left menu bar today as you did, and I noticed you've got the same problem I had with the links opening inside the bar instead of starting as a new page. The solution to that is to put target="_top" after the image link, but before the closing tag >.

you can also name your frames so maybe;'' and then set the target to the name of the frame!

Yeah no problem. Just thought it'd help. I stole that from Exosilvers' html. I'd recommend view source'ing his page for more stuff like that.
