My next project is a small one but a little tricky. It involves a lot of updating JSON and HTML elements at the same time. This particular project is actually really targeted at other Neocities members, as it generates content you can put on your own site to boost engagement. Hoefully once it's done y'all will find it useful. :)

Is it possible to update JSON using vanilla JavaScript? I thought you need NodeJS to do that

Also, hopefully* in my OP, but now Neocities goes all crazy when I hit the edit button lol. xD

Wait are you making a JSON File or are you just directly integrating it into JS?

Because if you're making a file im pretty sure you need Node

No file, I just have a JSON object which I store data in. Then when the user generates their content, I JSON.stringify() the object and include that with the generated code, which they can copy and paste onto their site. :)

Oh okay if you're not using a file then yeah you can just use vanilla

New layout is done! And SSN now has a notification system, point system and you can subscribe to comment threads. :)

Almost done with a bit of an overhaul of my site. Just finishing one last "big" task and then there's a bunch of little tasks. Then I gotta basically re-upload my entire site. xD Hopefully all done by tomorrow night. Then I think I'm gonna start a new small project, as I haven't created anything new in a while. xD

To all website owners with a potential gamer audience: if your site has a white background, you may want to consider explicitly set background-color:white or similar. Why? If you don't set it, your page with have a black background on Steam's in-game web browser. And if you have black text... Also, no pointing out if I've forgotten to do this on any of my projects. :P :^)

We've come full circle. Netscape version 1 had the same issue

So I wanted to try out SSN, but for some reason I couldn't register - when I tried it said "Username already taken" yet when I logged in it says "User not found"... what gives? Tried with different browsers. Inspecting the network log seems to show it's sending the form data twice..

D'oh! So that's why no-one registered. Really wish I'd done a live test after my last update now lol. xD Thanks for informing me about this! I'll make sure it's sorted for the next update (which I happen to be working on at the moment).

With regards to the form data being sent twice, this is intentional. The client/browser submits the form, but at this time the server has no cookie/token record for you. It creates one + sends the cookie, and asks the client to resend the form, which it will do this time with the matching cookie. This allows SSN to give you an error message if your client is blocking the required cookie. :)

But there's definitely a bug with registering. xD

OK building the new layout's almost done. I've used JS for the responsive stuff rather than CSS media queries this time because it just makes the CSS so much simpler. Still need to style the scrollbars on Firefox (I forgot xD), and then I can start implementing it into my actual site. Still might be a couple of days as I need to make some adjustments to my user account system to better fit the new layout.
