There's a simple solution to your load times. Your image files are really huge for web content, 18MB per picture is a lot. They are print quality resolution but it's not something you could appreciate on a screen. You could scale them down to less than 1000px in width or save it for website resolution in an image editor and it would look the same without the large file sizes..
thank you for the advice, which turns out to be a lot quicker than what i thought i'd have to do, creating thumbnails for each image that you could then click to open the full resolution in a new tab.
