Hello, I’m Kaitlyn Fung.

I grew up in the Cantonese diaspora on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and səlilwətaɬ nations.

Storytelling, through writing or multimedia means, is how I pursue hope, community, and justice in the world. My interests include diasporic cultures, community-based media, and urban sociology (or, put more simply, understanding how cities and the people living within them shape each other).

I have a Master of Journalism degree from the University of British Columbia. I received the James L. and Donald A. Duncan Fellowship to Advance Excellence in Journalism, and was an award recipient in the Canada Graduate Scholarships—Master’s Program: Fall 2020 Competition by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

I completed a Tula Immersion Journalism Fellowship at The Tyee magazine in 2022, and my work can be found at this page: here.
